SSE Enterprise Lighting’s dual carriage lighting enhancement project involved replacing 250W SON lanterns and installing electronic ballasts, mounted on 12 metre columns with twin brackets located in the central reservation.
The existing lanterns have been replaced with modern, energy efficient 140W Cosmopolis lamps, helping the Local Authority meet its Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) obligations. It is anticipated annual savings of 70 tonnes of CO2 will be made.
By installing new photocells with a more efficient (35/18 LUX) light activation regime, it will reduce the lamp burn time by eight minutes each day which equates to 47 hours annually. The electronic dimming ballasts provide a variable lighting regime of a reduction to 60% power from 22:00 to 06:00 hours and also obtain Constant Light Output (CLO) savings through these dimming ballasts.
