Stoke-on-Trent City Council is investing £7.8 million in LED street lighting – saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of pounds each year on electricity costs, maintenance and carbon tax. A total of 27,500 lamp heads are being replaced across the city over the next two years, with the first wave being rolled out in March.
The new longer-lasting lamps require less maintenance, use less electricity, and create a brighter ‘white light’ which improves visibility. They are also designed to direct light down onto the road more effectively, reducing light pollution into properties. Taxpayers can enjoy predicted savings of £830,000 per year on energy and maintenance costs, as well as carbon taxes, once the programme is completed.
SSE Enterprise has become the first ever company to win ExxonMobil’s Golden Tiger Award in two consecutive years. The annual Golden Tiger Awards at Esso Fawley were introduced by ExxonMobil to recognise excellence from contractor companies at the site.
Since 1989, SSE Enterprise’s Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) team has worked at the site, providing planned maintenance, project work and emergency responses to the oil refinery’s electrical systems.
The annual Golden Tiger Awards are part of a long established programme at the refinery and were introduced by ExxonMobil to recognise excellence from contractor companies at the site. Following an extensive audit process, in which over 50 contractors at the refinery were monitored on various working practices, SSE Enterprise and Rhyal Engineering were the only companies selected for the prestigious Golden Tiger 2016.
This week our Energy Solutions team joined SSE Business Energy at Energy Live 2016. The event took place on 3 November at The Barbican Centre in London. It was an opportunity for businesses to learn more about the wider energy industry, and how it is set to evolve in the future.
Our exhibition stand offered businesses the opportunity to discuss their energy and energy optimisation needs with our experts throughout the day. We discussed everything from energy policy to sustainability and demonstrated some of the tools and analytics we offer to help customers optimise their energy usage.
Energy firm SSE has today published a report making the case for increased use of district heating to improve heating efficiency and affordability.
The results are compelling; lives have improved, comfort has increased, carbon emissions have fallen and jobs and economic value have been created.
