SSE Enterprise apprentice Charlie Lowry has been named Regional Apprentice of the Year by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board Awards (ECITB).
Charlie who is based in the Electrical and Instrumentation business in Southampton scooped the award for the South East and East region.
His efforts will be recognised at the ECITB awards ceremony in London on 4 June where he may clinch the coveted title of overall Apprentice of the Year, judged over nine regions.
The award acknowledges apprentices who have showcased the difference they have made to their organisation, demonstrated commitment to their own personal development, exceeded expectations and showed inspirational qualities.
Charlie has now completed his Advanced Apprenticeship and has worked on numerous sites within the SSE Enterprise portfolio, including ABB and Esso forecourts as well as SGN sites at Portsdown Hill and Andover.
Charlie is delighted with the award. He said: “I was really surprised when I found out I had been put forward for the award. Even if I hadn’t won the regional heat, I was really touched by the fact my manager had put me forward for it.”
Mark Needham, Charlie’s manager added: “Charlie has a fantastic attitude to work, is a great support for his colleagues and has gained additional qualifications over and above what is required as part of his apprenticeship. He’s an excellent ambassador for the apprenticeship scheme and a shining example for our industry.”
