Stoke-on-Trent City Council predicted £830k savings in LED street lighting partnership with SSE Contracting

Posted In: News

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is investing £7.8 million in LED street lighting – saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of pounds each year on electricity costs, maintenance and carbon tax. A total of 27,500 lamp heads are being replaced across the city over the next two years, with the first wave being rolled out in March.

The new longer-lasting lamps require less maintenance, use less electricity, and create a brighter ‘white light’ which improves visibility. They are also designed to direct light down onto the road more effectively, reducing light pollution into properties. Taxpayers can enjoy predicted savings of £830,000 per year on energy and maintenance costs, as well as carbon taxes, once the programme is completed.

Following an extensive audit process, in which over 50 contractors at the refinery were monitored on various working practices, SSE Enterprise and Rhyal Engineering were the only companies selected for the prestigious Golden Tiger 2016.
